Rhayader is the gateway to the Lakeland of Wales - the spectacular Elan Valley Lakes are just 3 miles up the valley. The unspoilt countryside around them is home to some of Britain’s most rare wildlife and plants. The area is perfect for walking, cycling, fishing, bird watching, pony-trekking or just relaxing.

Rhayader, or Rhaeadr Gwy, meaning waterfall on the Wye, is the first town on the River Wye. It is also the oldest town in Mid-Wales dating back to the 5th century. Visited by the poets Percy Shelley and Wordsworth, and the Rev. Kilvert who described the area in his famous diaries.
